The topic was COVID-19's Impact on the College Admissions and Application Process. This very relevant and timely panel discussion was on the critical issues impacting higher education. We heard from higher education colleagues from Iona College, Manhattanville College, New York University, Pace University and Stony Brook University as they discuss various topics.

During our current times, we have all been challenged to think and operate differently and with a great deal of flexibility and creativity. Many of the very things we challenge students to do, we now must do ourselves, like stepping out of our comfort zone.

The first WPRCA event of the year was held on Zoom on 10/7.
Guest speaker, Timothy Scholten- Psychologist @ Ossining Union Free School District.
Timothy Scholten has been a school psychologist in the Ossining school district for 15 years. He currently works at Park Early Childhood Center and this year was named School Psychologist of the Year by the regional chapter of the New York Association of School Psychologists. Mr. Scholten was recently featured in a Journal News article entitled ’What Adults Can Do To Help Children Transition Back To School.'

Jennifer Clearwaters is a former School Counselor and was Supervisor of School Counseling. Her presentation included an overview of what mindfulness means. She also spoke about Yoga Calm and the evidence based curriculum she uses. Jennifer also reviewed a number of techniques she uses and shared tools that counselors can take back to their schools to implement.
Our first WPRCA event of the year, sponsored by Lynn University in Florida. This event revolved around helping students K-12 and beyond manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an important part of the mandates of the NYS Regulations governing school counseling as of September 2019. This topic will benefit all mental health professionals working with students of all ages.
