WPRCA Scholarship Opportunities

Providing scholarship support for School Counselors, College Counselors and Graduate Students in School Counseling Programs has been a long-standing tradition and part of the mission of WPRCA! We seek to promote professional development in the counseling community, and encourage future leaders of our association. Through scholarships, we seek to encourage membership, leadership, and enhance our stature as an important organization.

We are proud to share the winner of our NYSSCA 2019 Conference Scholarship is Maureen Duffy. Maureen was able to attend the 2019 NYSSCA Annual Conference this year thanks to the WPRCA NYSSCA Scholarship. Maureen applied for the scholarship because she wanted the chance to attend and participate in the amazing sessions offered. Maureen is a third year graduate student at Lehman College in the Bronx, where she is finishing a master's degree in School Counseling. Maureen is currently a Kindergarten Spanish teacher here in Westchester county. Maureen has also taught at the middle and high school levels. Outside of school and work, Maureen loves to run and is training for a half marathon. Join me in congratulating Maureen!

Rose Cooper Award Scholarship

For the third year, WPRCA is excited to announce The Rose Cooper Award Scholarship Opportunity for High School Seniors!

This scholarship award is in honor of Dr. Rose Cooper, who was a lifelong educator who taught at the secondary, post-secondary and graduate levels in New York City and Westchester County. Dr. Cooper was active in counseling associations on the local, the state and national levels. She counseled students about their futures and worked with students in selecting options that were the best fit for them. She actively cultivated her relationships with admissions professionals so that she could advise her students in the college selection process. Dr. Cooper was an advocate for students to have a successful and fulfilling life!

WPRCA is proud to offer ONE $1000 scholarship for a current High School Senior planning to attend college in Fall 2020 nominated by their School Counselor. For consideration, the School Counselor nominating their student must be a current member of WPRCA!

The Application Deadline is Monday, March 9, 2020! The Scholarship will be awarded at our End of the Year Event.

Each year WPRCA is proud to announce our annual Charlotte Pavone Memorial Scholarship for graduate students! Many of us in the School Counseling profession regarded Charlotte as an outstanding counselor, colleague, mentor and dear friend. As an active WPRCA member, she served on the Executive Board and began a mentoring program for new counselors and graduate students. Charlotte was well aware of the financial needs of our graduates. It was because of her interest and involvement that it was very appropriate that we named this award to honor her memory!

WPRCA is sponsoring TWO $600 scholarships for up to two WPRCA members who are current graduate students enrolled in a counseling program. This scholarship assists graduate students pursuing degree programs leading to certification as school counselors. The Scholarship will be awarded at our End of the Year Event in May!

All applicants must be current members of WPRCA!
